![]() The channel rack sequencer in FL is really quick for simpler patterns vs using the piano roll.īitwig has most of the things I like about Ableton mixed with some of the workflow flexibility of FL so it ended up being a good fit for me. If your music is pattern-based, having patterns that you can update one time and apply to your whole project is extremely convenient compared to the independent clips in Bitwig. FL devices are more full-featured which you might prefer as a beginner compared to Bitwig where you compose multiple devices to get what you want. On the other side, FL’s piano roll is much better, especially if you don’t know music theory. If you record audio, Bitwig is easier and the composing features are nicer to work with. I also prefer the highly modular design of Bitwig compared to the gigantic box of tools approach in FL. Session mode is a very nice feature for playing around or starting songs and the FL equivalent is complete garbage. Window management in Bitwig suits my scatter brain better and I think it’s easier to work with on both a single monitor and multiple monitors. I switched from FL to Bitwig because I like arrangement-based composition over pattern-based composition. They have very different workflows and different people prefer one or the other depending on how they think. It’s worth demoing both to see which one fits your brain better.
